Homeless Man Saves Mother and Infant from Dickinson Bayou Crash, Authorities Report

A 22-year-old mother and her 8-month-old child are recuperating following a rescue from Dickinson Bayou on Thursday evening, per officials.
The incident unfolded around 9:40 p.m. while the mother drove her minivan along FM 517.
She reported to responders striking a bridge curb, swerving through multiple lanes, then plunging into the bayou—cause of loss of control unknown.
A local homeless man camping in nearby woods witnessed the wreck and rowed his canoe to extract the pair from the water.
Dickinson police arrived by the time he reached shore with them.
The Dickinson Volunteer Fire Department assisted, boating a tow truck operator out to secure and retrieve the submerged van.
Both were transported to UTMB in League City post-rescue. Dickinson PD Det. Lupe Vasquez confirmed their release, noting no severe injuries and full recovery expected.
