Shocking New Poll Pits Obama Against Trump

magine a 2028 presidential showdown between Barack Obama and Donald Trump—a race that sounds like a political fantasy but was tested in a surprising new poll. The results reveal a clear favorite, but the Constitution’s 22nd Amendment, limiting presidents to two terms, makes it a legal impossibility.

Donald Trump has repeatedly floated the idea of a third term, despite the constitutional ban. In a June interview, he was asked about facing Obama and said, “That’d be a thrill. I’d take that challenge any day. It’d be something.”

He added, “People keep asking me to run again. There’s talk about ways to do it, you know, legal paths. I haven’t dug into it much. I’m focused on doing an incredible job now. We’ve got nearly four years left.”

The poll, conducted by the National Opinion Research Center with 1,200 registered voters, showed Obama leading Trump 54% to 39%. Obama drew strong support from Black (71%) and Asian (69%) voters. Notably, he outperformed other Democrats in the survey, with Joe Biden and Gretchen Whitmer trailing behind Trump in hypothetical matchups.

Obama won the presidency in 2008 and 2012, while Trump secured victories in 2016 and 2024, with a loss in 2020. As two of the most iconic figures in modern politics, they’ve never faced each other directly, making this poll a tantalizing glimpse at a dream matchup.

Trump’s third-term musings have sparked debate, but overturning the 22nd Amendment would require a two-thirds vote in both the House and Senate, plus approval from 38 states—a near-impossible feat. “There are ways, I hear,” Trump said coyly. “But I’m not focused on that now.”
