Multiple Vehicle Crash Involving Ambulance Injures Nine, Including Newborn, in Dougherty County

Nine people, including a newborn baby, sustained injuries in a three-vehicle collision that involved a rollover crash of a Dougherty County EMS ambulance early Saturday morning in Albany, Georgia.
The incident occurred just after 7 a.m. at the intersection of Pine Avenue and Monroe Street. A Dougherty County EMS ambulance, which was transporting two patients and three medical staff, collided with a 2017 Ford pickup truck. The force of the impact caused the ambulance to overturn, subsequently striking a third vehicle, a 2023 Buick Encore.
The Injured and The Response
The ambulance carried three EMS crew members (including the driver) and two patients, one of whom was a newborn child being rushed for medical care. The remaining vehicles had two occupants each, bringing the total number of people involved to nine.
All nine individuals were transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Officials quickly confirmed that all injuries were non-life-threatening and that everyone involved was in stable condition by Saturday afternoon. The two patients from the ambulance, including the infant, remained under observation as a precaution, while the three EMS crew members were treated for minor injuries and released.
Dougherty County EMS Director James Gibney issued a statement thanking the emergency crews for their swift action and expressing gratitude that no serious injuries occurred. Albany Mayor Bo Dorough echoed this sentiment, commending the quick thinking of first responders that “protected lives today.”
Investigation and Community Concern
The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) immediately launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the collision, reviewing dash-camera footage, witness statements, and traffic-light data. Authorities have not cited excessive speed or alcohol as factors in the crash at this early stage.
Local residents noted that the intersection is known for multiple accidents, with many calling for clearer signage and additional traffic control measures. Despite the chaos, EMS operations continued without interruption, utilizing backup crews and ambulances.
County officials emphasized their focus remains on supporting the recovery of the patients and the EMS crew. The GSP investigation is ongoing, and any witnesses are asked to contact the Albany post.
