Kristin Chenoweth Tearfully Addresses Charlie Kirk Tribute

Kristin Chenoweth teared up during an interview with NY1’s Frank DiLella while addressing the controversial tribute she made to Charlie Kirk after his assassination. When DiLella brought up the “mixed reactions,” the actress said, “Mixed? You’re being kind.” He also asked how she hoped to “convey” her “heartbreak” over Kirk, who “openly opposed same-sex marriage [and] trans rights.”
Chenoweth immediately began tearing up and apologized for her “emotions get[ting] involved” in the interview. She said that she had a “human moment of reflection” when she saw the video of the assassination. She added that she had come to understand that her comment “hurt some folks” and that she would “never” do that.
The Broadway star said that it’s no secret that she’s a Christian and that she’s an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. She said that for some, the two don’t go together, but for her, they always have and they always will.
In her original comment, she wrote that she didn’t “always agree with [him] but appreciate[ed] some perspectives” and that the assassination was a “sad, senseless and disgusting act.”
Other celebrities have also weighed in on the issue. Jamie Lee Curtis made headlines for crying over the tragedy while explaining that she “disagreed with… almost every point” Kirk made. Amanda Seyfried called him “hateful” but also said that his murder was “absolutely disturbing and deplorable in every way imaginable.”
