FBI Director Kash Patel Under Fire Over Handling of Charlie Kirk Assassination and Relationship With Younger Girlfriend

FBI Director Kash Patel, 45, is facing mounting criticism—not only for his leadership during the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, but also for his personal relationship with country singer Alexis Wilkins, 26.

The backlash began after Kirk’s shocking murder, when both current and former officials questioned Patel’s conduct. According to four ex-FBI members and two administration insiders who spoke to NBC News, Patel’s actions during the crisis sparked concern, including his whereabouts on the night of the shooting and what one official described as “grandstanding” after the suspect’s capture.

“He knows people are uneasy about how this looks,” one administration source said. “There are a lot of raised eyebrows.”

Patel defended himself on Fox & Friends, admitting he could have “worded things better” but refusing to apologize. “I don’t regret telling the world what the FBI was doing as we were doing it,” he said.

Still, the focus has shifted heavily to Patel’s romance with Alexis Wilkins, a rising Nashville singer-songwriter. Their 19-year age gap has become a lightning rod online, fueling everything from ridicule to conspiracy theories. The pair first met in January 2023 at a mutual friend’s party and began dating shortly afterward.

Wilkins, however, remains unbothered. “Plenty of people in this administration and beyond have age differences,” she told the Daily Mail. She pointed to Donald and Melania Trump’s 24-year age gap, as well as Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, 27, who recently married Nicholas Riccio, 59—a 32-year difference.

Brushing off online speculation that she’s a “honeypot,” Wilkins revealed she even blocked the word from her Instagram comments. She also clarified that she and Patel began dating before he became FBI Director, dismissing claims that her involvement was politically motivated.

When asked about the future of their relationship, Wilkins said the couple is “on a good path” and enjoying stability after the chaos of Trump’s second term. However, controversy followed when she filed a defamation lawsuit against ex-FBI agent and podcaster Kyle Seraphin, who suggested Patel’s relationship was part of an intelligence plot.

Without naming her, Seraphin described Patel’s partner as “half his age,” a singer with political ties on Rumble, and even a former Mossad agent—a claim Wilkins’ lawsuit calls “malicious lies” intended for “clickbait profits.” She is seeking $5 million in damages.

Away from political headlines, Wilkins is steadily growing her music career. Having spent her childhood in Switzerland and England before moving to Arkansas, she eventually relocated to Nashville to chase her dream. Today, she’s built a dedicated fanbase with a sound that blends classic country roots and modern influence.

Her 2023 single “Quite Like Whiskey” has surpassed 440,000 streams on Spotify, where she draws nearly 10,000 monthly listeners. Despite the controversy, Wilkins insists her focus remains on music—and her relationship with Patel.
