Ben Stiller Opens Up About Feeling ‘Lost’ During Separation from Christine Taylor—and How His Parents’ Love Story Helped Him Heal

In his new documentary, Stiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost, Ben Stiller reflects on love, loss, and reconciliation—both in his parents’ legendary marriage and his own relationship with Christine Taylor.
The 59-year-old actor and director, whose film premiered at the New York Film Festival on October 5, 2025, began exploring his parents’ lives—comedy icons Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara—after his father’s death in 2020, during the height of the pandemic.
“My career was steady, but my personal life wasn’t,” Ben admits in the film. “I felt unbalanced, unhappy, disconnected—from my kids, my family, even myself.”
Searching for Answers in His Parents’ Love Story
Jerry and Anne—married for over 60 years before her 2015 passing—weathered decades of stress, tension, and pressure while building their careers together.
“I remembered how they stayed together through it all,” Ben says. “I wanted to understand how they did it.”
The documentary weaves together home videos, audio recordings, and personal mementos—including Jerry’s meticulously saved love notes, scuba masks, and newspaper clippings—painting a raw, intimate portrait of their lifelong partnership.
“They found each other and never let go,” Ben told the Today show after his father’s death. “Now, I like to think they’re connected again.”
From Separation to Reunion
Ben and Christine split in 2017, leaving him grappling with loneliness and questioning his path.
But as he dug into his parents’ legacy, something shifted.
“I think I needed to learn from them,” he reveals.
By 2022, the couple reunited, proving that even the deepest disconnections can find their way back.
A Love Story for the Screen
Stiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost hits select theaters on October 17, 2025, and streams on Apple TV+ on October 24.
It’s more than a tribute to his parents—it’s a reflection on resilience, love, and the bonds that hold us together.
