Angelina Jolie Prepares to Leave America — Selling Her Legendary L.A. Home and Starting a New Life Abroad

Angelina Jolie is quietly preparing for a life-altering move — one that involves selling her famous Los Angeles estate and leaving the United States behind.
The Maria actress, now 50, is getting ready to list her historic home as she seriously explores relocating abroad, according to sources close to her. Insiders say Jolie never intended to make Los Angeles her permanent base, but stayed for years due to custody arrangements with her former husband, Brad Pitt.
Jolie and Pitt finalized their divorce in December 2024, closing an exhausting eight-year legal battle. Together, they share six children: Maddox (24), Pax (21), Zahara (20), Shiloh (19), and twins Knox and Vivienne (17).
Now, with the twins approaching adulthood, Jolie is preparing to move on. Sources say she plans to relocate as soon as Knox and Vivienne turn 18 next year. Several international destinations are being considered, and those close to her say she’s eager — and relieved — at the thought of leaving Los Angeles behind.
Her current residence, purchased in 2017 for $24.5 million, is no ordinary home. Built in 1913, the 11,000-square-foot estate is a piece of Hollywood history. It features six bedrooms, ten bathrooms, and expansive, private grounds. The property was originally owned by legendary filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille, who bought it in 1916 for less than $28,000. At one point, it sat next to Charlie Chaplin’s home — later absorbed into the estate — securing its status as a Hollywood landmark.
“It’s truly a historic masterpiece,” a source shared, noting that Jolie plans to make a few small upgrades before officially listing it.
Jolie herself has been open about why she remained in Los Angeles longer than she wanted. In a 2024 interview, she explained that her presence there was directly tied to her divorce. Once that chapter closed, so did her reason for staying.
Over the years, Jolie has repeatedly spoken about wanting a different environment for her children — one with more privacy, safety, and emotional space. She has said that Los Angeles, despite its opportunities, never fully offered the sense of humanity and calm she experienced while traveling and living abroad.
When her twins reach adulthood, Jolie plans to divide her time between multiple countries. One place, however, holds special meaning: Cambodia. It’s where she adopted her eldest son Maddox in 2002, and a country she has long described as home in her heart. Earlier this year, she once again referred to Cambodia as the place she feels most deeply connected to.
She also plans to travel wherever her children and family may be, embracing a more fluid, global lifestyle.
If everything unfolds as expected, Jolie’s departure will mark the end of a long era in Los Angeles — and the sale of one of the city’s most iconic estates. For her, it’s not just a move. It’s a long-delayed return to the life she always wanted.
