A Holiday Joke Goes Wrong

I think I ruined Christmas. My daughter-in-law, Claire, was at dinner, and I made a comment to her: “Looks like someone’s overindulged this holiday! Careful, or you’ll need a new wardrobe.” Claire got upset and left the table in tears. I later found her packing, and she told me I had humiliated her in front of the family and that she has body image struggles. My son, Ben, was furious and accused me of always belittling her. They left, and now the whole family is upset. I am wondering if I messed up that badly.
