Our newest rescue was terrified of men—abused by a previous owner, returned twice, and shaking with fear. She had even bitten someone out of fear.

Our newest rescue was terrified of men—abused by a previous owner, returned twice, shaking and defensive. Three days in, my husband simply sat on the floor each night with a blanket, giving her space to choose.
First night: she stayed across the room.
Second night: she edged closer.
Third night: she lay by him and used his head as a pillow.
We bought her a proper dog bed and calming treats, but what she needed most was time, patience, and the freedom to heal on her own terms. Now she follows him everywhere and sleeps on his pillow at night.
Sometimes, the greatest gift you can give someone broken is simply time and trust.
