My Husband and Mother-in-Law Plotted Against Me While I Was Away—Here’s How I Turned the Tables

Some in-laws offer support during tough times, while others bring trouble. This is the story of a woman whose relationship with her mother-in-law has always been strained. Her husband, Victor, is currently out of work, while she runs a small flower business that supports their family. The mother-in-law resents that Victor isn’t involved in the business and blames the wife for “demotivating” him.
To escape the tension, the woman took a short trip to stay with her sister. Shortly after, her mother-in-law sent a message hinting that she had arranged to keep Victor entertained during her absence. When the wife rushed home, she discovered her mother-in-law, husband, and an unfamiliar woman sharing a friendly meal at her table. Victor appeared comfortable and pleased with the attention. Hurt, the wife left without saying a word.
Two days later, she sent a bold message to her mother-in-law along with a positive pregnancy test, essentially telling her she wouldn’t be available as she would soon be caring for a baby—and making it clear the mother-in-law would never meet her grandchild because of her meddling.
Since then, the mother-in-law has been calling and accusing the wife of using the baby as a weapon. Meanwhile, Victor’s behavior has been inconsistent—alternating between sending gifts and making hurtful remarks about divorce and single motherhood.
Though the wife is set on divorcing Victor, her mother and sister urge her to give him and his mother another chance, hoping the baby’s arrival might improve things. She doubts that will happen. She asks whether her decision to cut ties makes her the villain or simply someone standing up for herself.
