Wheel of Fortune Contestant Takes Home $69,000 After Cracking a Difficult Final Puzzle

One decision on Wheel of Fortune had viewers groaning and sparked another round of what fans jokingly call “train rage” after a contestant passed up an opportunity that may have cost her the win.
The episode featured three players competing for a place in the Bonus Round: a Florida real estate agent, a Pennsylvania grilling fan, and a Delaware doctoral student interested in astrology and birth charts.
The game began quickly when the Florida contestant solved the opening toss-up. However, keeping that early momentum became difficult as the contest grew more competitive.
The Delaware player soon moved into the lead after correctly answering a puzzle connected to a well-known snack. The solve added more than $12,000 to his total and awarded him a trip to Atlanta through the show’s America 250 Coca-Cola promotion.
The Florida contestant appeared ready to close the distance during a later round. After uncovering most of a “Before & After” puzzle, he landed on the Mystery Wedge and chose to gamble. The decision failed when the hidden side revealed a Bankrupt, wiping out his winnings and returning the advantage to the other players.
The contestant from Delaware quickly took control, solving another puzzle and pushing his score beyond $15,000.
The moment that drew the most attention came during the Prize Puzzle round.
The Pennsylvania player was in a strong position after landing on the Express Train wedge, one of the show’s most valuable opportunities. Rather than accepting the risk and using the Express option, she decided to continue with standard gameplay.
Only moments later, with very few letters remaining, she solved the puzzle and won a vacation to Montana and Glacier National Park. The prize increased her total to $14,806.
Although the result was still impressive, viewers immediately pointed out that choosing the Express Train might have earned her considerably more money and possibly placed her in first.
Following the broadcast, social media filled with reactions from fans stunned by her decision. Many argued that the puzzle was nearly complete and that the possible reward made the risk worthwhile. Others joked that “train rage” has become a regular response whenever a player refuses the Express opportunity.
As the game moved toward the finish, the Delaware contestant continued building his advantage by solving two of the three Triple Toss-Ups and then claiming another major victory on the final puzzle.
His performance sent him into the Bonus Round with $28,040.
With his mother and twin brother beside him, he selected the “Event” category and faced a puzzle that initially appeared difficult. After the standard letters were revealed and he chose his additional ones, the board provided enough clues for him to quickly solve it as “Opulent Affair.”
The correct response earned him the night’s top prize, a Jeep Wrangler worth more than $41,000.
After the vehicle’s value was combined with his earlier winnings, the Delaware contestant finished the episode with an impressive $69,050, turning an already successful game into a potentially life-changing Wheel of Fortune victory.
